Snake Tattoos

Snake tattoos are among the most popular types of tattoos. Snakes can represent a number of different things. Many people assume that snakes represent negative, or evil things but this is not entirely true. While there is a reason for some of these associations because of folklore and different passages in the Bible, there is also quite a few stories in which the snake was a revered character who was not displayed in a negative light. There are many areas on the body that are ideal areas to tattoo a snake. Many people choose to tattoo snakes on their back because it gives them enough space to design the snake well and have it span the size of their back. If you are interested in a snake tattoo, but are unsure about what some of the associations are with snake tattoos, you may want to consider the following;

Snakes Are Considered Cunning

One constant throughout the portrayals of snakes is that they are considered to be cunning creatures. In many stories they are able to earn over the trust of people without very much manipulation, and often times are able to get people to do exactly what they want them to do. This has caused many people who consider themselves to be cunning to tattoo snakes on themselves.

Evil

In some folklore, snakes are considered to be evil creatures. While this isn’t necessarily true, in certain passages in the Bible snakes were never portrayed in a very positive light, and instead were always linked to very dark figures. In many of the old depictions of hell, snakes were housed in the caves of hell. This caused many more people to associate snakes with evil, and only helped to glorify this association. Keep in mind that if you are considering a snake tattoo, many jobs will not allow you to work at them with visible tattoos, and especially visible snake tattoos.

Manipulation

In many old stories the snake plays the part of the master manipulator. While this is not true for all of the old folklore, it is true for a great deal of them. The snake is often able to get individuals to do exactly what he wants with a little bit of convincing, and perhaps even a little white lie to push them in the right direction. Individuals who take pride in their ability to manipulate (for better or for worse) may consider tattooing a snake on themselves.

There are many places on the body that make ideal locations for a snake tattoo design. Keep in mind that snakes are long creatures, so you may want to set aside a great deal of space for a snake tattoo. One of the more common areas people decide to place snake tattoos is on the shoulder and running down the side of the torso. This is a great place as it allows them to keep the snake hidden if they want to, and also offers great space to design the tattoo.
